RBM Planning in the Grand West (BRTC)

During this year, we planned our work for 2018 and for the most part of 2019 in September before the beginning of our FY2018 in October. This period is very important because we get in contact with different people from projects and domains and talk about what needs to be done. We also revisit what was planned last year, what has been done and what is still to be done. It is said that without proper plans we cannot work well so this is a very crucial period for our work.

Cohort Yaounde 2017

Cohort is a time that those who are in a study program come together once a year to discuss issues that relate to their studies. For me it was a good time to look at my thesis which I am currently writing. It was also good to learn about what others are doing across domains.

Bible Scholar Training (Yaounde September 25-29, 2017)

Theme: "Training of Bible translation consultants in a changing world"
The event was organised by CABTAL and the Seed Company.
Participants came from Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, Burkina Faso and Ghana while facilitators came from Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Germany, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ireland and the USA.
Object is to train about 1700 Bible Translation consultants within the next 10 years across the globe who will salvage the consultant crisis that is currently being faced by the Bible translation movement around the world. The goal is to have a fair blend of knowledge and experiences from the classic university systems and theological institutions as well as with the knowledge of the university of the village. The university of the village refers to the knowledge from daily experiences in particular cultural context, situations and worldviews.
As a language technology consultant alongside with my other experienced colleagues Matthew Lee of SIL and Andy Kellogg of the Seed Company, we covered ParaTExt theory and practice with the Bible Scholars.

Yemba New Testament Dedication

The Yemba community on October 28 received their new testament in a choreographinc ceremony in Dchang in the Menoua Division of Cameroon. Work has been going on in this language for the past 25 years.

To me personally, this was my first language team to work with in checking their Scripture right after I became a language technology consultant. I am happy to see this develop. I was also able to make an App with their new testament so this is now available in print as well as in android format.

May the Lord bless the Yemba people as they now have the proper tools in their hands so that they will engage with the Scriptures appropriately.

Scripture App Builder (SAB) workshop

October 23-27, we had 12 Scripture Engagement workers from 10 communities that CABTAL partner with. They had come to refresh their Scripture Engagement skills and to learn how to put Scripture into their Android phones and to share the knowledge with those back in their communities. For four and half days, we all learned a lot and the participants especially learned about Android phones, Scripture App Builder and then they learned how to create mobile apps like songs, scripture portions and the gospel of Luke.
All these communities already have the gospel of Luke ready and they want to take advantage of technology so that no one especially the young - Android Generation will not be left out.
Participants shared lost of testimonies how these tools are going to facilitate and push their work in Scripture Engagement.
